| Age is simply not a
factor in orthodontic treatment. Our oldest patient was a grandmother of 72.
She had so much crowding of her lower front teeth that one tooth was
literally being forced out of her jaw. It also was creating a disfiguring
appearance. This tooth was extracted, and braces were effective in closing
the small remaining space. Afterwards she wondered why she had waited so
long.
The chief determining factor for treatment success
is the health of the bone and gums that support the teeth. Our patients
receive a comprehensive periodontal evaluation before any treatment begins
to be certain that orthodontics is appropriate for them.
